5 DAYS TORAJA TREKKING & CULTURE TOUR
Discover Torajan ethnic group that believed to be descendants of heavenly being who came down from heaven to earth by stairway to live in this beautiful landscape. Eventhough most of the population are christian, Torajan still practice their old belief called “Aluk To Dolo”. We will visit four types of grave in Toraja, because Torajan aren’t buried in the ground. They are cave grave, stone grave or “Liang Pa”, baby grave, and modern grave or “Patane”. If you think the Torajan graves are unique, wait untill you see a funeral ceremony (if there is a funeral ceremony happens). This ceremony can last for few days and involving the whole villagers. Complete your trip with trekking through the rice fields, coffee plantations, and small Torajan villages. Stay overnight with a local family in the village
ITINERARY
- DAY 1: MAKASSAR – TORAJA
On arrival at Sultan Hasanuddin airport, you will be met by your English speaking driver for your private transfer to Rantepao, North Toraja. The trip will take around 9-10 hours with a stop for lunch in Pare-pare or Pinrang and a coffee break in erotic mountain, Enrekang. Arrive at the hotel.
- DAY 2: TORAJA CULTURE TOUR
In the south part of Toraja you will explore the cave tomb in Tampangallo, stone grave with effigies in Lemo, and baby grave inside a living tree in Kote. You’ll also visit a traditional village to see the incredible design of Tongkonan houses and rice barns that look like a boat. If there’s any funeral ceremony happens today, you can come and witness one. The dead body usually kept for few years inside the house and still consider as a sick person and will be officially dead on the first day of the funeral ceremony, after they sacrifice at least one water buffalo.
- DAY 3: TORAJA TREKKING TOUR
After breakfast we will drive to Ke’pe village to start trekking in Toraja. The trekking in Toraja takes around 5-6 hours through the rice fields, coffee plantations, and small villages. Lunch will be served on the way with lunch boxes. After arrive in Limbong village, we will have rest and dinner in a local family house.
- DAY 4: TORAJA TREKKING TOUR
After breakfast we will continue our trekking to Salu village through Parinding village and Sarambu waterfall. The trekking today will take around 5 hours. Lunch will be served on the way with lunch boxes. After arrive in Salu village, we will have rest and dinner in a local family house.
- DAY 5: TORAJA – MAKASSAR
We will pick you up in Salu village today to go to your hotel in Makassar or directly to Sultan Hasanuddin airport.
