
Toraja, Sengkang, & Rammang-Rammang Tour
6 DAYS/ 5 NIGHTS ITINERARY
Discover four types of grave in Toraja, because Torajan aren’t buried in the ground. If you think the Torajan graves are unique, wait untill you see a funeral ceremony (if there is one). Travelling to Toraja won’t be perfect without a visit to a traditional village and a soft trekking through paddy fields in Batutumonga. After meeting the Torajan, let’s meet The Bugis. Their homes were mainly constructed on stilts and the communities were likely to be scattered along the river banks, sea or lake shores. Because they live in lowlands so most of them are farmers and fishermen. In Sengkang some fishermen live on the floating house on Tempe lake. Then we will explore the second larget karst in the world by a motorized boat to Berua village, Kunang-kunang cave, stone forest, and discover archeological evidences that are estimated around 5000 years old.

DAY 1
Makassar – Toraja
On arrival at Sultan Hasanuddin airport, you will be met by your English speaking driver for your private transfer to Rantepao, North Toraja. The trip from Makassar to Toraja will take around 9-10 hours with a stop for lunch and coffee break on the way. Arrive at the hotel.

DAY 2
Toraja Tour
During the first day, you will explore baby grave inside a living tree in Bori, cave tomb in Tampangallo, stone grave with effigies in Lemo, traditional village with incredible design of Tongkonan houses and rice barns that look like a boat, and we will also visit the Jesus statue that is taller than the Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro. Here you can see the view of Makale town from above. If there’s any funeral ceremony happens today, you can come and witness one. The dead body usually kept for few years inside the house and still consider as a sick person and will be officially dead on the first day of the funeral ceremony, after they sacrifice at least one water buffalo.

DAY 3
Toraja Tour
In the north part of Toraja you will wander a market where local people selling their products and every 6th day, cattle are brought to the market. Then head out to Lokomata to see the boulder grave with a stop in Tinimbayo rice terrace. Before short trekking through paddy fields and bamboo forest with your local tour guide, you can have lunch in Batutumonga with the view of Rantepao from above. Our driver will meet you up at the end of trekking route and continue to see megalithic stones in Bori.

DAY 4
Toraja – Sengkang
Depart Toraja today to Sengkang. Sengkang is inhabited by Bugis ethnic and is famous for Tempe lake and traditional silk weaving. In the afternoon we will visit a fisherman community that lives on floating houses on Tempe lake.

DAY 5
Sengkang – Rammang-rammang
Depart Sengkang to your accomodation in Rammang-rammang but before that we will see the traditional weaving village in Sengkang.

DAY 6
Rammang-rammang – Makassar
Rammang-rammang is known as the second largest karst in the world. Today we will visit Berua village, after that we will visit Kunang-kunang cave, stone forest, Leang-leang cave then back to your hotel in Makassar or directly to Sultan Hasanuddin airport.
