Sulawesi Tour Itinerary: Bira, Sengkang, Tana Toraja, Rammang-rammang (7 Days/ 6 Nights)

A 7-day Sulawesi tour offers an immersive journey from the larget karst in the world in Rammang-Rammang to the breathtaking ancient culture of Tana Toraja highland and the pristine beach of Bira. This itinerary optimally blends Bugis, Makassar, and Toraja cultures.
Start the 7-day Sulawesi tour at Makassar airport. From here depart to the pristine Bira beach via traditional boatbuilders village. The next day we drive to Sengkang to visit Lake Tempe. After that, we travel to the beautiful Toraja highlands. During this tour you can experience the unique culture of Toraja, especially the elaborate funeral ceremony. From Toraja you go back to Makassar. The last day you will explore the largest karst in the world and then transfer back to the airport.
Day 1: Makassar to Bira
After your arrival at Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, your driver will greet you at the arrival. After that we depart to Bira. Enroute we will visit Tana Beru to see traditional boat (Phinisi) construction. The Bugis and Makassarese are the most skillful boat builders and sailors in Indonesia. Overnight in a cottage in Tanjung Bira.

Day 2: Bira to Sengkang
Today we depart for Sengkang to visit a fisherman community that lives on floating houses on Tempe lake. Sengkang is inhabited by Bugis ethnic and is famous for Tempe lake and traditional silk weaving. We stay overnight in Sengkang.


Day 3: Bira to Sengkang
Hereafter we depart for the Toraja Highlands. On the way, we will visit a weaving center, where women handspun and weave silk clothes. In the afternoon arrive Tana Toraja via Palopo. 3 overnight stays at Hotel Luta Resort or Hotel Misiliana.oday we depart for Sengkang to visit a fisherman community that lives on floating houses on Tempe lake. Sengkang is inhabited by Bugis ethnic and is famous for Tempe lake and traditional silk weaving. We stay overnight in Sengkang.

Day 3: Bira to Sengkang
Toraja (Lemo, Suaya, Londa, Kete Kesu)
Today we have a full day exploring Toraja. First, you will visit Lemo to see rows of Tau Tau statues and the hanging graves. Onwards to Suaya to discover the secrets of baby trees, and then proceed to Londa to see ancient tombs in which the deceased was not buried, but placed among the rocks. At KeteKesu one of the oldest Torajan villages we can see Tongkonan (the traditional ancestral house, or Rumah adat of the Torajan people), and also the old traditional rice barns with colorful woodcarving. During the first day, you will explore baby grave inside a living tree in Kote, cave tomb in Tampangallo, stone grave with effigies in Lemo,traditional village with incredible design of Tongkonan houses and rice barns that look like a boat, and we will also visit the Jesus statue that is taller than the Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro. Here you can see the view of Makale town from above. If there’s any funeral ceremony happens today, you can come and witness one. The dead body usually kept for few years inside the house and still consider as a sick person and will be officially dead on the first day of the funeral ceremony, after they sacrifice at least one water buffalo
DAY 1
On arrival at Sultan Hasanuddin airport, you will be met by your English speaking driver for your private transfer to Rammang-rammang. But before that we will visit Leang-leang prehistoric park. After that we will continue our tour to Rammang-rammang. Rammang-rammang is known as the second largest karst in the world. Today we will visit stone forest, Kunang-kunang cave, and Berua village. After that we will spend the night in the lodge inside Bantimurung Bulusaraung national park.

DAY 2
Rammang-rammang – Toraja
Today we continue our tour to Rantepao, North Toraja. The trip from Rammang-rammang to Toraja will take around 9-10 hours with a stop for lunch in Pinrang or in erotic mountain, Enrekang. Arrive at the hotel.

DAY 3
Toraja Tour
During the first day, you will explore baby grave inside a living tree in Kote, cave tomb in Tampangallo, stone grave with effigies in Lemo,traditional village with incredible design of Tongkonan houses and rice barns that look like a boat, and we will also visit the Jesus statue that is taller than the Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro. DAY 4
Toraja Tour
In the north part of Toraja you will wander a market where local people selling their products and every 6th day, cattle are brought to the market. Then head out to Lokomata to see the boulder grave with a stop in Tinimbayo rice terrace. Before short trekking through paddy fields and bamboo forest with your local tour guide, you can have lunch in Batutumonga with the view of Rantepao from above. Our driver will meet you up at the end of trekking route and continue to see megalithic stones in Bori

DAY 5
Toraja – Sengkang
Depart Toraja today to Sengkang. Sengkang is inhabited by Bugis ethnic and is famous for Tempe lake and traditional silk weaving. Before going to the hotel, we will visit a sericulture or silk worm farming. After check-in and rest a bit then we will visit a fisherman community that lives on floating houses on Tempe lake.

DAY 6
Sengkang – Bira
Depart Sengkang to your accomodation in Bira but before that we will see the traditional weaving village in Sengkang. Arrive in the afternoon and leisure time.

DAY 7
Bira – Makassar
After breakfast we will visit Liukang island with a chartered boat for snorkeling. After lunch at the local restaurant on the island, we will head back to Bira to go back to Makassar.
